In 1999, many of the artists who went on to work for Theatre Horizon participated in an experimental writing/acting workshop and co-created a play they titled Horizons. The following year, in the summer of 2000, Theatre Horizon was founded by Matthew Decker as a theatrical outlet for young adults.
Since that time, Theatre Horizon has grown into a full theatre company, providing a place for young directors, actors, producers, designers, and artists of all kinds to hone their craft, exchange skills, and take risks in a supportive environment. In November 2005, Theatre Horizon became a non-profit organization as recognized by the State of Pennsylvania and in January of 2006, Theatre Horizon became a 501-c-3 organization under the Internal Revenue Service code.
Past productions include such thought provoking dramas as the Philadelphia-area premiere of The Violet Hour (2006), the critically acclaimed production of The Laramie Project (2005), Book of Days (2004), and Waiting for Lefty (2003) and the original music revues Take Me to the World (2001) and If I Sing (2000).
Theatre Horizon has also partnered with the Upper Merion Concerts Under Stars Series to fulfill Park and Recreation Director David Broida's vision of bringing outdoor theatre to King of Prussia. This exciting partnership resulted in the first ever full scale musical, Grease!, presented in the beautiful gazebo performance space in the summer of 2005. Theatre Horizon repeated this successful format with You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown in the summer of 2006. In 2007, Theatre Horizon presented a stunning production of Once on This Island, the children's show The Velveteen Rabbit, and its incredibly successful, original Holiday Show at the Swing Club.
