 A day-long Theater Extravaganza DIRECTED, PRODUCED, and STARRING you and your friends!
At Theatre Horizon’s 2nd Annual Play Marathon on July 22, 2006, 14 young actors ages 12 to 19 performed for an enthusiastic crowd of family and friends. Each actor had raised $30 to fund their participation in the marathon, and now it was time to put aside donation forms and pick up costumes and props.
Working in teams of four or less, the actors had been given this challenge: Using a short comedic scene we provide you, rehearse, costume and prepare the most amazing, extraordinary, revolutionary, and glorious performance you can create!
Each team had only 6 hours to accomplish the task. The result was a very entertaining and energetic night of performances by these talented and imaginative young actors. The money they fundraised went towards Theatre Horizon’s season of plays and musicals, and their efforts were rewarded with great prizes from Bennigan’s Restaurant and California Pizza Kitchen.
Friends, family, and fans shared in the theatrical triumphs and the after-party that celebrated the fabulous and brave performers.
The Annual Play Marathon is being re-vamped for 2007, to include more young actors, give them more flexibility in the kind of scenes they perform, and possibly extend the creative process over many weeks instead of just a few short hours.
WHAT DO YOU THINK THE PLAY MARATHON SHOULD BE? What if participants sang and danced like American Idol contestants? What if the event was weekly? What if it were a contest between area drama clubs? What are YOUR ideas? There are gazillions of possibilities!
