“…RIVETING THEATRE…THE STRUCTURE OF THE PLAY IS ORIGINAL, CHALLENGING, AND INVOLVING.”
Based on a true story, this Pulitzer Prize-winning play tells the fascinating tale of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a German man who survived the Nazis and the Communists while dressed as a woman. Having endured two of history's most repressive regimes, Charlotte's ambiguity made her a bridge between unlikely worlds. Celebrated actor Charlie DelMarcelle portrays over 30 characters and seduces us with Charlotte's tale of politics, survival, and beauty.
Charlie DelMarcelle (Charlotte von Mahlsdorf) has performed locally at: The Walnut Street Theatre, The Arden Theatre Co., Delaware Theatre Co., Inis Nua, The Lantern Theatre, Azuka Theatre Collective, EgoPo Classic Theatre, Commonwealth Classic Theatre, White Box Theatre, and Amaryllis. This is his first show with Theatre Horizon. Charlie holds an MA in Theatre Arts from Villanova University and is currently pursuing his MFA in acting at Temple University. This production marks his fifth collaboration with director KC MacMillan.
Exploring themes in I Am My Own Wife, Theatre Horizon welcomes Philadelphia playwright and author Warren Hoffman for a lively discussion about the issues that unite LGBT and Jewish communities today. WarrenHoffman.com
